As Winter Falls

The leaves have fallen from the trees

 They lie upon the ground

No birds sing on the branches

Just a silence all around

In the hours before the sunrise

The leaves turn crystal white

Dark clouds gather in the sky

At the passing of the night

Leaves crunch loudly neath my feet

As I venture forth so bold

A gentle breeze comes from the North

Bringing a bitter cold

Snow flakes fall from up on high

Down to the earth below

Creating a glorious carpet

Of fresh white virgin snow

Footprints embedded on the earth

Leaving a trail in the snow

A path for the lonely traveller

His pace unsure and slow
