Old Oban Bay

As I stand on the hilltop and look all around

From the grey regal tower past Kerrera Sound

The reflections on the water like filigree lace

Bring back fond memories of this wonderful place

Many changes have happened since last I was here

Lots of old icons have now disappeared

In the name of progress the die has been cast

Oh! how I long for the days long gone past

The old railway station with its clock up on high

Once a welcome reminder I reflect with a sigh

No rows of fishing boats moored at the pier

Or fishermen splicing and mending their gear

Fish stowed in boxes and preserved on cold ice

Neatly packed side by side to gain the best price

The auctioneers call enthralled young and old

As they called out the bids until they were sold

From Kerrera sound and along it’s west shore

As I look o’er to Mull and a sight I adore

Lismore lighthouse stands tall and so white

As the tide rips reflect in the sun’s fading light

Looking over  Dunollie built so long ago

Lorne’s hills in the background covered in snow

This scene changes colour as each season goes by

But each year brings renewal from earth and sky

Not all of the icons have been left to fall

The tower now coloured around the grey walls

Bringing light to dark skies as I look to the sky

A tug to my heart strings, and I still wonder why?

After all these years that have passed me by

It never leaves me no matter how I try

When the sun gently sets in a soft golden ray

I can never forget lovely old Oban Bay.
